iPhone 13 will not have Touch ID in the screen

According to the Power On news Mark Gurman said that Apple is actually testing an in-display Touch ID fingerprint sensor, but it will not appear on this year’s iPhone.

“While Apple had tested in-screen Touch ID for the next flagship iPhones, it won’t make the cut this year. I believe Apple is all-in on Face ID for its higher-end iPhones and its long-term goal is to implement Face ID in the display itself.”

There are quite a few sources every year predicting that Apple will integrate Touch ID into the screen, so now it shows that it has been eliminated, at least in 2021. According to Mark Gurman, he saw that Apple has tested hidden camera technology in the screen similar to Samsung with the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

He also predicts that Face ID and Touch ID will appear in the future, with a hierarchy between regular and high-end.

  • The high-end line has Face ID in the screen, the lower line has Face ID in the rabbit ear.
  • The high-end line still has Face ID in the screen, the lower line has Touch ID in the screen.

This means, Face ID will still be the main security feature and manufacturers will still integrate Touch ID in the screen into cheaper models.

It remains unclear why Apple decided to scrap its original plan to include ‌Touch ID‌ in the ‌iPhone 13‌; however, the company may not yet feel that the technology is good enough to become mainstream in its flagship iPhones. Additionally, the company may have felt less pressure to include the feature after the launch of iOS 14.5, which allows customers to unlock their iPhones with their Apple Watch.
The global health crisis caused by the COVID 19 pandemic and the daily wearing of masks has increased the demand for ‌Touch ID‌, as Face ID does not work while the user is wearing a mask. Apple addressed the issue with iOS 14.5 and watchOS 7.4, allowing customers to unlock their ‌iPhone‌ while they’re wearing a mask, as long as they have an Apple Watch.

So the news about iPhone 13 is almost complete, smaller rabbit ears, 120Hz high refresh rate screen, 1TB of memory for the Pro series, faster A15 chip, upgraded camera.

September will be the month when Apple holds events, there may even be two events in the same month. This is also the last year of the iPhone mini line, with sales not being very good. Ming Chi Kuo predicts

In your opinion, is upgrading iPhone 13 enough? Is in-screen FaceID ready?
