Raja Koduri, Senior Vice President of Intel, recently explained the decision to hire TSMC to process the Arc GPU – the first generation of discrete graphics cards of Intel, instead of self -made as they still do.
Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, many of the hard supply chains have been affected, including the semiconductor supply chain. Continuously for 18 months, manufacturers have had a headache about the shortage of semiconductors in production. However, Intel seems to have escaped this crisis in a “relatively peaceful” way, mainly thanks to its vertical strategy.
Specifically, Intel designed and produced its CPUs at the factories built by this company. This will bring them more flexibility than non -production manufacturing companies (such as AMD, they will rent chip processing).

Intel completely knows their ability to produce and the company also knows how many products they can produce. However, the production of GPU is completely different from the CPU. Therefore, Intel had carefully evaluated reviews. At that time, efficiency and optimal production will be put on top. TSMC is a brand that is too experienced in the production of GPU, so the decision to hire production is somewhat understandable.

From the above decision, it can be seen that Intel has found an optimal way on the 6 -nm process of TSMC for the Alchemist GPU. Intel’s first discrete graphics card is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2022. The company also confirms the current Iris GPU will support the Xoss feature, thereby becoming a counterweight with DLSS from NVIDIA. In addition, Intel is also working with its partners to produce alchemist architecture.
